O'Neill Elects New Board Members, Officers

By Terry Zdrale

The O’Neill Senior Center Board of Directors recently elected four new members to serve three-year terms under a rotating board membership plan. New members are David Ferguson, Brenda Kornmiller, Attorney Leslie Vincent, and Katie McGlynn. Departing trustees James Addison and Denyse Fordham each served six years on the board.

Officers for the 2009 – 2010 year are: Libby Brokaw, president; Joanie Washburn, vice president; Icie Jones, CPA, treasurer; and Donna Tornes, secretary. Rounding out the board are Walt Brothers, Rose Criss, Jennifer Houtman, Jerry Littlefield, Dr. Kathleen Meckstroth, Rose Nardi, R. Glenn Ray, and Randy Wilson.

According to current board president Libby Brokaw, one of O’Neill’s major accomplishments in the past year was the strategic alliance developed with the City of Belpre. This alliance has provided expanded and enhanced opportunities for older adults in the Belpre and surrounding areas, a region with a large senior population. The Belpre Center has enjoyed strong attendance and future plans include facility improvements and expansion to accommodate expected demand.

The O'Neill Senior Center is a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to providing services and activities that help seniors live HIP: healthy, independent and productive. The center offers many life enrichment and fitness programs for those over age 55. Services for those ages 60+ include medical transportation, adult day services, homemaking assistance, and social services including Medicare Part D consultations and acquiring free prescription medications. O'Neill Senior Center depends greatly on the generosity of community-minded businesses and individuals who contribute their time, talents, and treasures. The United Way of Washington County and the United Way Alliance of the Mid Ohio Valley provide financial support to O'Neill Center and Belpre Center. The Washington County Senior Services Levy is the primary source of funding for most services.
