Shelter in Place

Date(s): May 12th, 2008
Cost: No cost to you
Time: 1:00pm

Do you know what “Shelter in Place” means? As a Washington County resident, you need to be familiar with this term and know how to respond if a “Shelter in Place” is activated.

Sixty-five local industries produce or use hazardous chemicals in their processes, and twenty five of those facilities use chemicals categorized as extremely hazardous. These products travel through our county by truck, rail and barge. An accident could result in a leak or spill and residents would be ordered to shelter in place.

Join Judy Grize, Director of RSVP and Fred Bacu, AmeriCorps VISTA, for an informational, interactive session geared toward teaching seniors how to prepare their home in the event a shelter in place is activated. Using simple items you probably already have in your home, you will learn to create a safe room to wait out the shelter in place order.
